Care and Share helps with food and clothing

SANDUSKY — Care and Share helps Erie County residents during the holiday season — and the rest of the year, too — with emergency food, clothing, linens and household goods.The nonprofit at First Presbyterian Church, 241 Jackson St. in downtown Sandusky, is open three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, providing food and other necessities to anyone needing help who can show Erie County residency with a photo ID, said the group's director, Linda Miller-Moore, the organization's executive director.The group doesn't make any special effort to help people during the holiday season but instead tries to provide aid 52 weeks a year, Miller-Moore said. But many local organizations help Care and Share during the holiday season, and that effort is appreciated, she said.The best way to help Care and Share is to provide cash, she said."Since we can buy food at wholesale prices, we can buy a lot more food than they can for their dollar," she said.To donate money, mail a check to Care and Share at 241 Jackson St., Sandusky OH 44870. Contributions are tax-deductible and a receipt will be mailed back. Or just stop by and make a donation.Donations of personal hygiene items and condiments such as mustard, ketchup and salad dressing also are welcome, Miller-Moore said.Volunteers also are always needed. "We need volunteers year-round," she said. "Even if they can only come in an hour a week, anything they can do."City officials also will hold their annual donation drive at Care and Share on a Saturday in December, with details to be announced soon, city commissioner Dave Waddington said.
