Frohman Foundation supports many local charities

SANDUSKY — The Sidney Frohman Foundation supports a wide variety of local charities and schools.The foundation was established in 1952 by Sidney Frohman. Frohman was president of the Hinde and Dauch company for 34 years, according to Sandusky Library's history blog. When he died in 1964, the New York Times ran an article, noting that he was "a leader in the corrugated box industry in the United States and Canada for more than 50 years."The foundation provides support to a wide variety of 501c3 charities and to local schools, said Don Mazza, a trustee with the organization.Groups that have received funding include OHgo, Cancer Services of Erie County, the Salvation Army and Care and Share, Mazza said.The foundation contributed money to help Care and Share repair its roof and to help BGSU Firelands with its science labs, he said. Each high school in Erie County gets $5,000 annually from the foundation to help seniors go on toward college, with each school allowed to spend the money as it sees fit, Mazza said. BGSU Firelands also gets $5,000 a year, he said.The Frohman Foundation also participates in a local council of community foundations, which meets quarterly to discuss grants and community needs and to cooperate in helping the community, Mazza said.The Frohman Foundation's 2018 Form 990-F filing with the IRS listed total net assets of about $9.1 million.
