Sandusky woman charged with vehicular homicide

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky woman faces felony charges for allegedly driving a vehicle while intoxicated and causing a crash in March that killed her passenger. Erie County Jail records show that Jocelyn Cherry, 19, of Neil Street, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony; aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony, and; two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence, both first degree misdemeanors. On March 16, a 2012 Hyundai Elantra allegedly driven by Cherry was driving south on Ohio 101 when it ran a red light and hit a truck as it turned off the Ohio 2 ramp, the Ohio State Highway Patrol previously said. The truck driver wasn't hurt but both Cherry and her passenger, Storm Lanier, 18, also of Sandusky, were both seriously hurt and taken to a Cleveland hospital. Lanier died in the hospital the next day. According to Lanier's obituary, she considered Cherry her "'big sister'/best friend." A local law enforcement official said Cherry's charges come from a recent indictment. But no information on her court case or indictment was available on the Erie County Common Pleas Court docketing website as of Friday afternoon. Cherry remains in the jail on a $52,500 bond, according to jail records.
