Sandusky man branches out, starts online fulfillment company

SANDUSKY — Go ahead and question Jaret Dreschel about why he left his former employer: an online shipping company, which, in its infancy, generated more than $1 million in sales this past year. He's not shy about sharing the answer. "For me, fulfillment is more important than the money, and I just didn't feel very fulfilled there," said Dreschel, a 2016 Margaretta High School graduate. "I feel like I could do something that would make me happier on my own, even in the short term if it resulted in a loss financially," the entrepreneur said. "In the long term, I know I'm capable of building a big business." So Dreschel recently started his own Fulfillment by Amazon company, which he'll soon operate out of a Sandusky-based warehouse. Amazon provides storage, packaging and shipping assistance to sellers. The remaining burden, however, falls onto sellers, like Dreschel, to satisfy a customer's order. "When you buy something on Amazon, there are no elves that make it," Dreschel said. "It comes from third-party suppliers, like myself. You take all the products, buy them, box them up and send them to an Amazon fulfillment center, which is then sent to the consumer." Dreschel buys a wide range of products — such as toys, games, sports cards along with exercise equipment — from places like retail outlets, secondhand stores and flea markets. Lately, because of the warmer weather, he's focusing his attention on marketing summer items, such as inflatable pools, blow bubbles and sidewalk chalk. "Sometimes the consumer doesn't like leaving their home, and this gives them convenience and confidence to buy what they want or need," Dreschel said. "My sales went crazy with the coronavirus due to more people buying things online." His 3-year-old daughter, Eloise, not only gives him tips on what to buy but serves as his ultimate motivation to succeed. "I want to create generational wealth for my family," Dreschel said. "I want to create opportunities that I didn't have for my existing daughter, future kids and grandkids and everyone else that I love." Dreschel's typical day can span 15 hours. In his rare free time, he helps other local companies beef up their online presence through his second company: Dreschel Media. He also publishes a daily vlog on YouTube.
