No vandalism or looting followed protest

SANDUSKY — Some outlets across the U.S. talk of protestors spraying graffiti, breaking windows and burning buildings in the wake of George Floyd's death. But nothing of the sort occurred in Sandusky on Monday following a peaceful rally and march against racism and police brutality. Sandusky police Chief John Orzech, Perkins interim police Chief Vince Donald and Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth all said their agencies did not respond to any issues such as vandalism or looting overnight. "We haven't had any calls of property damage or anything of the sort at all," Donald said. Added Sigsworth: "(The protest) was very, very peaceful." Before the protest, some downtown businesses and government buildings, like the Erie County Court of Common Pleas, closed their doors. About 1,500 people marched from the Schade-Mylander Plaza in Sandusky to the Sandusky Mall on Milan Road (U.S. 250) in Perkins Township. The group entered the mall for about 10 minutes before exiting the building and going their separate ways.
