RestorePro sanitizes Perkins police cruisers

PERKINS TWP. — RestorePro Disaster CleanUp & Restoration used commercial-grade disinfectants to sanitize Perkins police vehicles Wednesday — all at no cost to the department. As police departments look to protect their personnel against SARS-CoV2, or the novel coronavirus — which causes the COVID-19 disease — the Perkins Township-based RestorePro sanitized the department's more than two dozen vehicles, plus the interior of the station and the township administration offices. "We were talking about how we can effectively help the community," RestorePro founder and president Jon Fields said. "One thing we wanted to do is reach out to first responders." Fields and three other RestorePro employees, Rusty Zeller, Jason Lehrer and Chris Dewitt, used spray bottles and a machine that deployed the commercial-grade disinfectant — which is EPA-approved for use in hospitals — on surfaces inside the vehicles, as a preventative measure. Perkins police Chief Robb Parthemore said the department graciously took the company up on its offer to sanitize the vehicles for free. "If our officers fall ill (our) service will be hampered," Parthemore said. "We don't want that to happen. We appreciate (RestorePro's) help and their role in this, I think it's a great community service." Fields also donated some of the sanitizer the company uses to the department, along with training on how to use it and disinfect effectively. They also gave each officer two complementary N95 masks. "RestorePro will, as with all of our clients, help Perkins Township Police by offering our assistance and expertise in teaching and educating the leadership on suggested protocols to self-maintain on-going protocols in their facility and police cruisers after our disinfecting services," Fields said. "We also offer on-going scheduled disinfection services to help if our clients need further resources, freeing them up to work their business and provided an additional level of risk management." Fields said that there is no practical test to identify the presence of the novel coronavirus on services, but RestorePro uses adenosine triphosphate tests (ATP) that measures microorganisms on a surface. "Utilizing this test we can identify the hygiene of the surface to identify the result of the cleaning and disinfectant application. A clean test result allows us to conclude that the virus has also been eradicated as it is weaker than other pathogens we are testing for using ATP as a screening tool for surface hygiene." Fields said his company plans to offer similar free services at other local law enforcement agencies. He also offered some sanitation advice: • Surfaces should be cleaned or wiped with soap and water before applying a disinfectant, according the CDC and EPA label use instructions. • Be careful using chemicals that can be toxic to humans and pets, especially on food contact services. • Never mix different cleaning or disinfecting products.
