Sandusky Schools December update

If you drive past the intermediate or Ontario building sites, you will notice that the brick is being placed, which truly sets the tone for how close our new buildings are to being finished. Mosser Construction continues to work diligently and both buildings are already under a roof. Windows are being placed in both buildings as well. We are excited to see the work progress inside each building during the winter months. Some of the inclement weather affected work on the new schools, but both the Ontario and intermediate schools remain on schedule to open for the start of school in the fall of 2020.New Ontario school: In terms of the site work since our last update, the mechanical yard screening walls are ongoing and the natural gas service is now installed. On the building, overhead piping, ductwork and electrical rough-ins are ongoing in the single story high bay areas. Second floor exterior walls as well as plumbing supply lines rough-ins are also ongoing, and windows are being installed. Interior walls are being built and boilers are set. Installation of roofing above kitchen is complete. Brick veneer is being placed on the north elevation.New intermediate school: On the site, mechanical yard screen wall foundations are ongoing. In the construction of the building, the gym deck is being painted. Brick and the overhead sprinkler rough-ins are ongoing in the single story high bay areas. Roof drains are being set and connected. The first-floor toilet drain and vent batteries rough-ins and electrical switch gear rough-ins are ongoing. Main electrical switch gear has been placed and connected. Windows are being installed.As stated in our previous newsletter, we want to ensure that we are continuously communicating our plans to you. One of the most important pieces of information for each Blue Streak family to know is which building each grade level student will be attending come fall of 2020.Please find the breakdown by grade level of where your child(ren) will be attending school next year:• Preschool and kindergarten students will attend Mills Elementary school and construction will begin at the Hancock Elementary school site.• First and Second grade students will attend the newly opened Ontario Primary School• Students in grades 3-6 will attend the newly opened intermediate school building• The Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies will move to the Adams building in downtown Sandusky• Sandusky Digital Academy will move to the Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies building• Building assignments for seventh through twelfth grade students will remain the same• Adult education will move to the Venice Heights Elementary building.As a reminder, students will not have school Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 for winter break.
