After moving downtown, Tim Dorsey Fitness gets stronger

SANDUSKY — Tim Dorsey and his legion of exercise enthusiasts are pumped up about a new facility catering to their, bodies, minds and spirits.Dorsey recently moved his gym from the Sandusky Plaza on Cleveland Road (U.S. 6) to the former Central Feed & Supply store building at 301 E. Market St. near the Schmidt Building. The new gym opened less than a month ago.Tim Dorsey Fitness is located 301 E. Market St. in downtown Sandusky.Compared to its previous location, the new Tim Dorsey Fitness tripled in size, allowing for multiple classes — such as for kickboxing, spinning, circuit training, dancing with Zumba and more — to simultaneously occur. People can also train on free weights, circuit machines and cardiovascular equipment without getting in the way of classes."And we're only halfway done with our building," said Dorsey, alluding to a ninja warrior obstacle course and rock climbing wall in the works.Opening a gym downtown satisfies Dorsey's longtime ambitions. Thus far, it's worked out well for him."I love it here," Dorsey said. He welcomes anyone to check out the space and possibly sign up for a membership. "One person told me this is the coolest gym he has been to. That was the best compliment."Compared to its past location, Tim Dorsey Fitness in downtown Sandusky boasts about three times more space, allowing for multiple classes, such as kickboxing and spinning, to simultaneously occurOne noticeable feature Dorsey's gym boasts: large windows seen from the street."Those windows are so good for the soul," said Darla Kelley, who has been affiliated with Tim Dorsey Fitness since 2016 and, more recently, became an instructor there. "Even on a cloudy day, it's nice and bright in here."The windows shine a light onto Dorsey's fitness philosophy: improve a person's physique without forgetting about mental health. Dorsey's encouraging attitude and positive demeanor during his grueling workouts are one reason why so many people continue to visit his gym, Kelley said."Everyone is welcome to come in here and do what they want," Kelley said.
