Kalahari parking lot shooter sentenced to 6 years

SANDUSKY — An Elyria man accused of opening fire with a handgun in a Kalahari Resorts parking lot was sentenced to six years in prison.Ronnelle Chandler, 19, received the sentence Nov. 21 on three counts of felonious assault in Erie County Common Pleas Court. Judge Tygh Tone delivered the sentence. Chandler received three-year sentences on each charge, and one charge also carried a three-year prison term because he used a firearm, according to a sentencing sheet. Those sentences will run concurrently for a total six years.Chandler entered a guilty plea the same day, and had several other felony and misdemeanor charges dismissed.The Erie County sheriff's office accused Chandler of shooting at several people near the Nyumba Entertainment Villas May 20. Nobody reported being struck by gunfire.Another man allegedly involved in the May 20 incident, 19-year-old Samuel McKnight Jr. of Cleveland, has a criminal case that's still ongoing. McKnight allegedly pistol-whipped someone during a robbery attempt.McKnight's next court date is a pretrial hearing Dec. 5, according to his Erie County common pleas court docket.Chandler will serve his term at the Lorain Correction Institution in Grafton.
