Maple City Nutrition gets face lift

Maple City Nutrition has gotten a face lift that owner Amber Atkinson said will allow the nutritional smoothie and health shop to serve the community better, and show its appreciation.The nutrition club and shop, 57 Benedict Ave., which opened in August 2016, offers more than 40 smoothie flavors, now offers the community something it can be proud of, Atkinson said.The face lift, which took the business five days to complete, involved the installation of bar seating and allowed for smoother work space for employees."We changed everything," Atkinson said. "It's a new bar, new flooring, new decor, everything. ... It's just a nice way to kind of give back to the community, to give them something nice for all of their support."The business, which soon will release its new specialty nutritional coffee menu, also recently began offering fitness classes, such as cardio drumming, which takes place Monday and Thursday evenings.Maple City Nutrition also installed its own version of the hall of fame. The feature wall offers a spot to recognize local residents and workers who have seen success by working with the complimentary lifestyle coaching offered at Maple City Nutrition, to meet their weight loss goals. Club members are able to move the star with their name on it down the wall, the more weight that they lose, allowing all to see the progress they've made."The more people we talked to and the more people we help, they just didn't know (the progress they'd made)," Atkinson said. "The more people we talk to, this is more of an encouragement, seeing how much of an impact it's had on the community. Having that weight loss board up there has been really cool. We've had a huge impact here." New ambulanceWAKEMAN — Citizen's Ambulance Service received and put a new ambulance into service Sept. 26.Medic 1 is a McCoy Miller 2018 Ford E-450. On its first day of operation, paramedics and EMTs responded to seven emergencies in 24 hours. Medic 1 was purchased from Burgess Ambulance Sales in Loudonville. It is equipped with the latest technology, including but not limited to, LED lighting, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), digital radios, full safety harnesses for staff and advanced cardiac monitors. A new patient cot also provides upgraded security for patients.Medic 1 was purchased by the Vermilion River Ambulance District comprised of representatives from the village of Wakeman and Wakeman Florence and Townsend townships.Citizen's Ambulance employees and the board of directors thanked the district for its continued support the the first responder organization for the past 40 years. Malewski certifiedMILAN — Elkins International of Dallas, an authorized COLEM, a national Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commercial license examination manager, has announced the appointment of a new certified FCC examiner to their team for the state — Ralph Malewski, of Milan.Malewski has served the broadcast and cable television industries for nearly four decades and has been an industry leader in the development of many new technical broadcast standards. He has served as a president of the Buckeye chapter of the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers. He is certified as a broadband engineer with the SCTE and licensed by the FCC as a general radiotelephone operator and extra Ccass amateur radio operator (K8KXA).FCC Commercial exams are scheduled and administered around the U.S. each week. Elkins has been teaching and training students of technology since 1968. Terra State gains new presidentFREMONT — The Terra State Community College board of trustees and president Ronald Schumacher have agreed on three-year contract. The agreement is in effect until 2021.Schumacher served as interim president for five months following the resignation of Jerome Webster. Prior to that, he was the college's senior vice president and executive director of the Terra College Foundation.With Schumacher at the helm, the college has had many impressive accomplishments, including gaining a budget surplus, The Landings at Terra Village opened when the College hosted its first Move-In Day and the college received a USDA grant for the creation of the Leadership Center. Faculty contract negotiations also were amicably delayed until a new president was named."There are a lot of opportunities at Terra State," Schumacher said. "If the college simply keeps what is best for our organization, faculty, staff and students at the heart of every decision, we will not make a bad decision. If we stay true to that, we will have everything turned around much faster than expected." Jensen joins Terra State boardFREMONT — Pam Jensen officially joined the Terra State Community College board of trustees after being sworn in by Sandusky County Probate Court Judge Brad Smith during the board meeting Wednesday. Jensen, of Oak Harbor, will fill a vacant seat for a term ending Dec. 30, 2022.
