Kalahari shooting suspect pleads guilty

SANDUSKY — A Euclid man accused of shooting at several people in a Kalahari Resorts parking lot in May pleaded guilty to several felonies.Ronnelle Chandler, 19, pleaded guilty in Erie County Common Pleas Court Nov. 21 to three second-degree felony felonious assault charges. Another felonious assault charge, along with two counts of inducing panic and one count of carrying a concealed weapon, were dismissed.Chandler is accused of firing a handgun at several people May 20 outside Kalahari's Nyumba Entertainment Villas. Nobody was hit by the bullets.Members of the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task force, with assistance from Cuyahoga County law enforcement, arrested Chandler at his Euclid home May 23.Chandler faces a maximum 24-year sentence, plus another three years because a gun was used to commit the crime, according to a sentencing sheet. Prosecutors suggested Chandler serve a six-year term, which he allegedly agreed to, along with the three-year gun specification for a total 9-year term.The case for a second man charged in connection with the May 20 incident remains ongoing. Samuel McKnight Jr., 19, of Cleveland, faces felonious assault, aggravated robbery and two felony weapons charges.McKnight allegedly pistol-whipped someone in the face during an attempted robbery, an event that Chandler allegedly was present for, Erie County sheriff's office Chief Deputy Jared Oliver previously told the Register.McKnight was indicted in September and has a pretrial hearing set for Dec. 5.Chandler remains in the Erie County Jail.
