Friday Night Highlights: Sandusky Bay Conference games

The Sandusy Bay Conference went 2-4 on Friday as only Edison and Port Clinton managed wins for the league.Three of the four teams that lost (Perkins, Margaretta, Oak Harbor) were beaten by an average of 29 points, though the losses came at the hands of three playoffs teams last year (Sandusky, Western Reserve, Genoa).St. Mary CC and Huron both play Saturday.Edison 34, Monroeville 28: The Chargers had a 34-7 lead after three quarters before the Eagles popsted three scores to close the gap.Tommy Gerbracht led the Chargers with 110 yards on 13 attempts with two TDs for Edison, and Zach Rutherford added 75 yards on 15 carries and two scores.Monroeville's Cory Long finished with 195 yards on 21 carries, with two rushing TDs and one passing touchdown.Port Clinton 18, John Marshall 12, OT: The Redskins came back from a 12-0 deficit and Cody Smith scored the game-winner in overtime from three yards away, giving Port Clinton a third straight 2-0 start to the season.In the fourth quarter, PC's Andrew Leidheiser had a 1-yard run, then threw a 21-yard pass to Brock Moore to tie the game.Western Reserve 48, Margaretta 26: The Roughriders reversed their fortune, rushing for 414 yards against the Polar Bears a week after allowing 400 yards on the ground in a 48-26 loss.Margaretta's Ben Singer ran for 161 yards and and TD, and Nick Mavros gained 116 yards.But Western's Blake Buckhannon had touchdown runs of 36, 42, 66, 55 and 30 and ran for 319 yards. he also caught a TD pass.Eastwood 35, Clyde 32: Ryan Meyer ran for scores of 4 and 5 yards in the first half, but the Fliers let a 20-7 lead slip away against the Eagle. In the third and fourth quarters, Meyer tossed TD passes of 63 and 29 yards to Adam Turner and Sam Jess.Genoa 51, Oak Harbor 13: The Comets forced an early turnover, and scored early and often against the Rockets, who allowed 392 yards on the ground.Genoa, which won its fourth straight against Oak Harbor, had a 29-0 lead in the second quarter before the Rockets' Brian Mallernee found AJ Cecil for a 19-yard score.Want to read more on these games?
