Bunny hops through Huron

HURON – It's not everyday you see a bunny on a boat. The Easter Bunny was escorted through Huron Saturday afternoon with assistance from South Shore Marine and the Huron Police Department. People of all ages stepped outside their homes to catch a glimpse of the Easter Bunny aboard the boat. They waved, smiled and blew kisses as the bunny passed by. The Easter Bunny also hopped by the windows of Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation to spread happiness to the residents inside. Port Clinton, Vermilion and other areas had similar events involving the Easter Bunny during the weekend. The Huron Chamber of Commerce organized the Bunny Hop Around Town event to not only celebrate Easter but also give families and residents the chance to go outside or watch from their cars in one of the parking lots along the route. "The goal of the Huron Chamber during this challenging time is to support, educate and engage our community and businesses," said executive director Amy Roldan. "We feel this is a way to show our community that we care and we want to provide something positive in a time that is not so positive." Huron is a small community that thrives on "knowing everyone" and being social, Roldan said. That is lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. She believes something as simple as stepping out or sitting in a car will let the community feel a sense of being social and being together. "Our hope is that when people look back on their memories of what happened during COVID-19 in 2020, it won't be just the bad but seeing the bunny hop around town and seeing a town come together to support each other, support businesses and truly believing in how strong we are," Roldan said.
