No face masks allowed inside

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky convenience store is not letting customers wear face masks in their store. The BP Mickey Mart on West Washington and Decatur streets had a sign posted on its front door Monday instructing people not to wear masks in their store. The message, transcribed below, says people who want to wear masks can use the store's drive-thru: "To our valued customers, We must have your face visible due to security purposes at all times. Thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time. If you feel it necessary to wear your mask, please go through the drive-thru and we will assist you. Thanks." Two other Mickey Marts in Sandusky did not have signs prohibiting face masks posted on their doors Monday. A message left for a manager at BP Mickey Mart's corporate office seeking clarification on the policy was not immediately returned Monday afternoon. President Donald Trump recently announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is suggesting Americans wear non-medical face masks out in public, a reversal of the CDC's prior policy advising that only sick people and those at high risk wear masks. On Saturday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, state health department director Dr. Amy Acton and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted also recommended Ohioans wear cloth face masks. Before the coronavirus outbreak, businesses, in general, did not let people wear masks in their stores out of fear that someone who did so was hiding their identity to commit a crime, Sandusky police Chief John Orzech said. It's not clear if other local businesses are still banning the wearing of masks amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
