Gilbert S. Bucholz

HURON – Gilbert S. Bucholz, 86, of Huron, Ohio died Sunday, April 5, 2020, at Stein Hospice In-Patient Care Center in Sandusky. Gil was born on September 4, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Sam and Helen Bucholz. Gil was a retired radiologist who throughout his life served many of the professional Osteopathic organizations at the state and national levels. This includes serving as President of the Ohio Osteopathic Association, President of the American Osteopathic Association, President of the American Osteopathic Foundation, and President of American Osteopathic College of Radiology. Gil served on multiple Boards including the Board of Directors of the Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was also a leading force behind the establishment of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Gil was also a team physician for the World Wrestling team at the 1968 Olympics. Gil was a 33rd Degree Mason where he was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Gil was a pilot and sailing enthusiast who enjoyed extensive travel. Gil was an adventure pilot who flew in more countries and continents than many professional pilots ever will. He sailed competitively in Lake Erie as well as multiple international races including the Sydney Hobart race. Gil is survived by his wife, Jan (nee Weske); sister, Rose Cohen; nephews, Robert (Emily) Cohen, David Cohen, Howard (Susan) Cohen and their children. Gil was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Helen Bucholz. Private family services will be held. A public Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date.
