New eats, treats at CP

SANDUSKY — For 2020, Cedar Point will introduce all kinds of new menu options, with many paying tribute to the past. The park brings vegan and vegetarian options to the park at the new Wild Turnip, located at the end of the Frontier Trail near Thunder Canyon at the former Foldovers stand. Guests who visit Wild Turnip will have choices of a power salad bowl with broccoli, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts and kale with a blood-orange shallot vinaigrette, a plant-based bratwurst with sauerkraut and gluten-free personal pan cheese pizzas made with a cauliflower crust. Just below the Sky Ride station near the Scrambler, the new Custard Creamery will serve up fresh-frozen vanilla and chocolate custard, chocolate chip polar bear sandwiches, chocolate eclair bars and other ice cream novelties. One of the most requested throwback menu items was the fruit juice sippers from the 1980s. No matter orange, grape, lemon or apple, these little plastic containers spark tons of nostalgia for guests, and Cedar Point has sourced them to come back for 2020. The stand adjacent to Scrambler will be rebranded as the C.P. Juice Co. offering the sippers, slushies and smoothies. Another highly requested item was the French waffle. While it is unclear if they will be back in that exact form, Cedar Point is building the French Quarter Confection near the front entrance. The stand will offer funnel cakes, elephant ears and waffles on a stick as well as fudge, cotton candy and other treats. Step across the midway, and guests will experience the new Mac Shack. The create-your-own macaroni-and-cheese bar will expand upon the fresh pasta concept at Hugo's Italian Kitchen, offering guests the chance to top their bowls with various other option, like brisket, pulled pork, bacon and more. Being located near Kiddie Kingdom, this location should be popular with families. The Corral will undergo renovations and menu upgrades for Cedar Point's 150th anniversary. A little farther down the midway, The Corral is undergoing construction. The restaurant will offer hand-breaded chicken tenders, gourmet pizza on focaccia crust as well as guest favorites, like cheese on a stick and corn dogs. Let's hope the Walking Tacos also find a new home for 2020 since it was the only location offering them. In addition, guests will see lots of special anniversary menu items throughout the park, like a special anniversary funnel cake at French Quarter Confectionary or one of three signature milkshakes at Toft's Ice Cream Parlor. If all the new food options sound intriguing, Cedar Point is offering a special Taste of the Point food tour that will include 15 park locations. Once the passport is completed, guests will receive a free T-shirt. Inside the main gate, a new redemption center will provide a one-stop shop for guests to process vouchers for pre-purchased items, like Fast Lane, drink and dining plans and FunPix photo plans. The redemption center is available to guests who have already purchased these products. Guests who wish to purchase on-site can still do so at any ticket window. The redemption center will be located near the new French Quarter Confections. Coming Thursday: Sawmill Creek part of new digs for park guests
