Man who killed family on Halloween 2010 found dead

A man who pleaded guilty in 2011 to the Halloween murders of three family members has died in prison.Lt. Craig Cvetan, spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, confirmed that William "B.J." Liske, 29, was found dead at 11:25 p.m. March 31 while incarcerated at Ross Correctional Institution."We are investigating a pending suicide case," Cvetan said.He would not divulge details of the death, such as where Liske was found, citing the ongoing investigation.There were no signs of foul play, and his injuries appeared to have been self-inflicted, he said.Liske, then 25, murdered his father, William Liske, 53, stepmother Susan Liske, 46, and stepbrother Derek Griffin, 23, as they slept in their Benton Township home on Oct. 31, 2010.He bludgeoned Griffin with both sides of a claw hammer and shot his father five times with a .22-caliber gun. He shot Susan three times. A medical examination revealed she had been raped.A younger brother, who was 16 years old at the time, had stayed at his father's home that night — which likely saved his life.Liske had a history of mental illness and violent behavior. His attorneys had unsuccessfully argued he was not guilty by reason of insanity.Cvetan had no knowledge whether Liske had previous suicide attempts or persistent mental health problems while in prison.Liske avoided the death penalty when he accepted an agreement to plead guilty.
