VIDEO: School celebrates 35 years

Rosann and Peter Larrow started Firelands Montessori Academy in Norwalk in 1979 with 18 students.On Friday, the school celebrated 35 years with it's founders in attendance.Students sang songs and recited the history of Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator whose philosophy of education lives on through Montessori schools around the world.Rosann expressed how positively the children's lives are impacted by the hands on learning experience of the school: "Children learn the way they do best. It opens the world to them."Her husband and fellow founder, Peter, said one of the most rewarding aspects of being a part of the school has been watching the students grow into adulthood."They become incredible human beings," remarked Heather Gray, head of the school.The school currently has about 115 students, toddlers through eighth grade.If you are interested in learning more about Firelands Montessori Academy, located on Ohio Street in Huron, the school will be hosting an open house this Sunday, March 8, from 1-3pm.Register photo/ANGELA WILHELM Students present the history of Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator whose philosophy of education lives on through Montessori schools around the world.
