Perkins Schools releases new superintendent's contract

widman@sanduskyregister.comPerkins Schools publicly released its newly hired superintendent's contract Wednesday, a deal totaling about $400,000 in salary and benefits throughout three years.It's fairly similar to the current superintendent's four-year deal, which expires June 30.One crucial difference: new hire Jodie Hausmann is required to live within the Perkins Schools district by Dec. 31, 2015.View a copy of her contractJim Gunner, who has been Perkins Schools superintendent for the past seven years, never moved into the district.The district offered to reimburse him as much as $10,000 if he did move, according to his contract.He never did, and continues to live near Toledo.Gunner's residency has been a point of contention among many area taxpayers, especially as district officials proposed several local tax increases during Gunner's tenure.It appears school board members hope to remedy that issue with the new clause included in Hausmann's contract.Hausmann officially begins Aug. 1, with an annual salary of $125,000.Board members officially hired her on Tuesday.Hausmann will work on a per-diem contract throughout July, after Gunner retires.Her daily rate will be about $550 until her contract begins.Hausmann currently lives in Strongsville, and has been employed as the Parma Schools director of teaching and learning since 2011.Hausmann's contract with Perkins Schools• Superintendent job is effective Aug. 1, 2015, to July 31, 2018.• $125,000 annual salary, with increases possible.• $550 daily pay rate from July 1, 2015, to July 31, 2015, and any other days worked prior to her contract for the purposes of transition.• District will "pick up" Hausmann's payments toward the state's retirement system.• 25 vacation days per year.• 3 personal days per year.• Hausmann is required to live within the school district by Dec. 31, 2015.• $5,000 for costs associated with moving into the district.• $350 a month automobile reimbursement.• $150 per month for cellphone and home high-speed Internet payments.• Various performance-based bonuses related to competitive grants and the district's annual report card score from the Ohio Department of Education.• Reimbursement for membership in two professional organizations and membership in one local nonprofit service organization.• Hausmann agrees to have routine comprehensive medical examinations at the district's expense.Source: Perkins SchoolsRegister photo/ALISSA WIDMAN NEESE Jodie Hausmann, right, shares a laugh with community members Tuesday night, shortly after Perkins school board members hired her as the next Perkins Schools superintendent.
