Man shot during apparent home break-in

Update, 6 p.m. WednesdayPolice said the suspected shooter is in custody. Detectives received information pointing to a 15-year-old Sandusky boy as the alleged shooter, Dahlgren said. The boy is charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felonious assault, all felony-level charges.The boy's mother took him to the Erie County Juvenile Justice Center, where as of 6 p.m. he's being held.Update, 4 p.m. WednesdaySANDUSKY — Police responded to a shooting at an East Madison Street home on Tuesday.Officers traveled to the 500 block of E. Madison St. for an apparent burglary, and learned a resident of the home was shot, according to a Sandusky police report. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m.The victim, a man, was shot in the leg in a bedroom of the home, according to Sandusky police Lt. Scott Dahlgren. The gun was apparently only fired once, Dahlgren added.A 14-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday night on charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies.The victim was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, but has since been released, Dahlgren said.Police think there were other people with the boy.Dahlgren said detectives received information that a second boy, aged 13, was also involved in the alleged robbery. Police brought that boy in for an interview, and eventually charged him with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary."We know of at least these two (suspects) but have reason to believe it there may have been more," he said.Nothing was taken from the home, Dahlgren said. Police suspect the boys believed no one was home, and shot the victim after apparently being confronted by him.Police did not find the gun used in the shooting, and are still trying to determine who the shooter is, Dahlgren said.Dahlgren asked anyone with information to contact Detective Eric Costante at the Sandusky police station at 419-627-5866.
