Michelle's Music presents: Konipshun Phit

Hailing from Cleveland comes typical, yet talented metal band Konipshun Phit. The band formed in the early 2000s and after many line-up changes, currently consists of Mike Borini on guitar and vocals, Brad Glicken on guitar, Steve Watson on vocals, Jay Henderson on drums and Joe Yott on bass."We try to stay away from genre labels," said Borini on the band's sound.Taking influences from bands such as Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Sevendust and Dog Fashion Disco, Konipshun Phit has a heavier alternative rock style of music with touches of progressive and metalcore mixed in. They deliver music featuring smooth melodies eloquently combined with familiar riffs and powerful drums. Paired with the perfect mix of heavy and clean vocals, Koniphsun Phit is the the type of music you can rock out to at a show or enjoy alone on a long drive.The band works together when composing music."Watson and myself will write riffs together," said Borini, describing the band's song writing process. "But if anyone has an idea, we work with it."Lyrically speaking, Konipshun Phit covers a variety of topics including race, religion, politics and interpersonal relations that most anyone can relate to, all the while leaving their songs open to interpretation."I'm all over the place," Watson said. "But I try to make it big enough for the listener to decide what it's about."I feel like a lot of people, once they listen to us, they can relate to it," Glicken said. Currently, the band has taken a break from playing live shows to record new music and become become more whole as a group."We've had a lot of show offers we had to turn down," said Borini.
