topey@sanduskyregister.comIn June 2010 Julie & Shamus Spitzley moved the roasting facilities of Storm Mountain Coffee Roasters to Williams Street in Huron. They have since doubled sales in the following years.The specialty coffee company roasts and sells bags of coffee for wholesale sale throughout the United States. They also sell by the pound. Some of the businesses larger clients are Kent State, Cuyahoga Community College and hotels.They are now planning to sell individual K-cup style coffee.A plantation in Costa Rica that the couple buy coffee beans from recently purchased a packaging plant in Texas. The plantation asked the Spitzley's to be one of the few of their roasters to put their product into the K-cup. Storm Mountain had to adjust their roasting receipe for the K-cup. A recipe for a roaster is the amount of time they roast beans for and at what temperatures are needed to produce the taste desired.The Storm Mountain K-Cups fit into Kurig and other single serve coffee makers, except for the Kurig 2.0.Before they sell to the public they are taking part in a fundraiser for the Huron Chamber of Commerce.The couple have set aside the first 400 cases for a fundraiser for the Huron Chamber of Commerce. Each case holds six boxes of 12 cups for a total of 72 cups per case. A percentage of the pre-order sales go to the chamber.It is coming at a much needed time for the chamber, said Sheila Ehrnhardt, director of Huron Chamber of Commerce.A number of factors in 2013 resulted in some chamber fundraisers being canceled, such as a golfing event and the popular Taste of Wine & Roses. The chamber, which is self sustaining, lost thousands of dollars as a result.The money is mostly used for student scholarship money but is also used for operating costs.Julie approached the chamber and offered the fundraiser as a way to introduce Storm Mountain single serving coffee.After the fundraiser Storm Mountain will sell the K-cup's at Huron Market.The single serving is not the only new product the Spitzley's launched.They sell to hotels, and other hospitality businesses, coffee pre-measured and ready to go into coffee makers for large and small businesses.They also help independent coffee shops set up their business plan, the shop and menu."Storm Mountain Coffee Roasters, more than just beans," Ehrnhardt said laughing.Julie repeats it.
