Michigan player Frank Clark arrested for domestic violence

**NOTE: Check back at the Register tomorrow morning for full, extensive coverage on Clark's hearing**ouriel@sanduskyregister.comPerkins police officers arrested a standout University of Michigan football player on Saturday, charging him with two misdemeanors for allegedly attacking his girlfriend in their hotel room.Officers booked Frank Clark, 21, into the Erie County jail early Sunday morning on a domestic violence offense.Later on Sunday, authorities served Clark with an additional assault charge.He stayed in jail, without bond, through the weekend.The starting senior defensive end is scheduled for a 9 a.m. hearing Monday in Sandusky Municipal Court.A 21-page Perkins police report, independently obtained by the Register through a public records request, sheds light into a gruesome and disturbing scene between Clark and his girlfriend at Maui Sands.The victim, Clark's live-in girlfriend, told Perkins police Officer Martin Curran how he allegedly punched her in the face, breaking a hotel room lamp as she fell.The victim's brother, who'd just emerged from the hotel room shower at the time, reportedly saw Clark grab the victim by her neck and slam her to the ground.At one point, the woman said Clark pinned her to the bed, prompting her to bite his nose in an attempt to get him off.Maui Sands employees became aware of the situation after someone in a neighboring room called the front desk, explaining actions inside Clark's room "sounded like a head was being bounced off the wall."The caller also saw and reported three small children running from the room, with one supposedly saying, "Frank is killing our sister." One child, the victim's brother, said Clark hit his sister.It appears several family members of the victim visited the hotel property with Clark, but it's not known how long the group was there for.Perkins police received an emergency call at this time, around 10:30 p.m., regarding a physical domestic dispute with a woman passed out inside the hotel room. At this point, Clark had left the hotel room and ventured outside.When he arrived on scene, Curran first approached Clark, who allegedly told him "I didn't do s--- to her. I didn't touch that woman. She is a woman."He went on: "I don't know what they do, what they go through, I don't know what she is going through. I know she is going through some crazy fits, and she may be pregnant."Clark, who had a bloody nose, then remained quiet when Curran asked follow-up questions.Despite a large welt and blood on her face, the victim repeatedly refused going to a hospital for medical treatment and didn't want to pursue charges against Clark."I advised (the victim) in Ohio when a domestic violence victim does not want to pursue a criminal charge against the offender, and there are signs of physical violence, we are guided by law to charge that offender with domestic violence," according to Curran's report.Curran's report indicates the victim was not drinking alcohol but Clark was.A university spokesperson told ESPN, "We are aware of the report and are gathering more information."The Detroit Free Press reported Clark has not been suspended or dismissed from the football team.The newspaper also received the following statement from Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke: "We are aware of the report involving Frank Clark. I have not spoken with Frank but will at the appropriate time. We will respect the legal process and make any decisions once we have the facts."The Michigan Wolverines did not play Saturday. The team's scheduled to face Maryland this coming Saturday and Ohio State on Nov. 29.Mlive.com, a Michigan-based news outlet, reported Clark was arrested on felony theft charges prior to his sophomore season in 2012."After admitting he stole an $1,800 MacBook Air laptop from a Michigan dorm room, Clark was ordered to pay $1,741 in fines and costs and was also given one year's probation," the website reported.From a statistical standpoint, Clark is having his best season, with 42 tackles and 4.5 sacksBut just because of his stature as a Big Ten football player doesn't mean he deserves special treatment, Perkins police Chief Ken Klamar said."This was an incident of domestic violence, and from our perspective, there is no other way this incident would be handled, regardless of who he is," Klamar told the Register. "(His name or affiliation) didn't come into consideration whatsoever. The facts of the case are what they are, and that is what the officers used when making a determination for an arrest."UPDATE 10:55 a.m. — The Register learned from Perkins police Chief Ken Klamar that a report, describing the exact details of Clark's arrest, will be made available late this afternoon.Until then, Clark will remain in the Erie County jail at least until Monday, when he's scheduled for a hearing in Sandusky Municipal Court.ORIGINAL STORY — Frank Clark, a defensive end on the University of Michigan football team, was arrested early this morning in Perkins Township on a charge of domestic violence. According to online court records, Clark is in the Erie County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence, which is punishable with up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. Clark is currently being held without bond. An Erie County Jail shift supervisor told The Blade that Clark remains in jail and will appear in Sandusky Municipal Court tomorrow morning, when his bond will be set. The Perkins Township Police Department, which arrested Clark, has not responded for comment. A Michigan spokesperson said the program is aware of the report and is gathering more information this morning. Clark, a senior, pled guilty in September of 2012 to a felony count of second-degree home invasion after he stole a laptop from a Michigan dormitory. He was sentenced to one year of probation under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, and was ordered to pay a fine.
