Get a first look at new Rieger Place

topey@sanduskyregister.comFor months people have watched the construction and remodel of the rundown Rieger hotel.Now is the opportunity to see the results.A preview event at Rieger Place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday will give people their first glimpse of the newly restored hotel in all its glory, said John Lippus, executive director of Sandusky Main Street Association, which is hosting the event."The Rieger is one of those properties in town that people felt should be torn down, that is was an eyesore," Lippus said. "The building now looks wonderful."The old buildings in a community give it its identity and, as long as the bones of the building are solid, are important to save if possible, he said.There will be tours of an upper floor apartment as well as some of the lower floor commercial space and the new banquet hall. The Rieger's banquet hall will be available to rent out for weddings or other events, Lippus said.Ferndock Brewing, owned by Sandusky natives Kyle Roth, his brother Zac and cousins Jared and Drew Opfer, will have tastings of its first beer, Sandusky Pale Ale, at the preview.Wine and appetizers will also be served.There is a $15 donation encouraged to help cover the cost of the event and help fund Sandusky Main Street.
