Huron High School graduates class of 2018

[gallery]HURON — Plenty of schools are celebrating graduations in late May. But how many graduates are sent off into the future by a World War II bomber?As Friday evening's graduation for Huron High School began inside the football stadium, a TBM Avenger torpedo bomber flown by owner Charlie Cartledge passed twice over the stadium.The plane, stationed at Liberty Aviation Museum at Port Clinton, saluted the ceremony at the request of Cartledge's friend, Jon Brausch, who sat in the stands waiting for senior class vice president Timothy Delahunt to graduate.Delahunt's mother, Christine Brausch, said Timothy will attend Ohio University and is leaning toward majoring in finance.His favorite class in high school was economics."He works at Sawmill Creek Marina. It's his third year, and he loves it," she said.Near the Brausches sat Liam Donnelly, with Donnelly's wife, Carrie, and two of his children. His son, Liam James Donnelly, was also a graduate Friday."His grandparents are down there somewhere," Donnelly said, referring to the lower part of the stands.Donnelly said his son enlisted in the Navy and will report for duty August 14. He'll be an electronics warfare technician aboard a submarine.In the meantime, Donnelly acquired a civilian skill at EHOVE, learning to become a welder. "He really liked that," his father said.The graduation, featuring young men in red robes and young women in white, was blessed by blue skies and perfect sunny weather.The student body president, Ronald Brandal, had plenty of humor as he thanked administrators, coaches and teachers at the school."It isn't always easy dealing with our generation, because we're always right," he said.Brandal said he himself plans to become a teacher."We are leaders, we are connected and we are strong," he said.Sarah Blevins, the salutatorian, advised the graduates to live in the moment.
