Hy-Miler and Cameo join forces

topey@sanduskyregister.comPicking up a pizza to fill up your empty tank while filling up your vehicle's gas tank seems a natural plan to two local businessmen.The newly opened Hy-Miler Convenience Store across from Kalahari Resorts seems like your standard gas station/ convenience store. They have gas, snack foods, pre-made sandwiches and many varieties of coffee. They have a beer cave.But this place is one up from your normal store.The gas is Shell, the most popular selling gas. The beer cave has blue lights to allow customers to see how cold the beverages are. The bathrooms are large with authentic granite counter tops and beautiful tile.And there is the Cameo Pizza business in the corner.Jonathon Stipp, manager of this new Cameo's location, has been in the restaurant industry for at least 15 years."He knows how to make a mean pizza and sub," said Cameo owner Matt Keech.It is Stipp's job to ensure a Cameo pizza made at the Hy-Miler tastes just like those made at the Cameo's on Monroe Street. This is not a gas station pizza.They start making pizza's at 9 a.m., perfect for third shift employees or for someone just craving a different sort of early morning pie.Walk in and order a pizza with your favorite toppings or they will have Hot & Ready pizza's waiting for any hungry customer at a cost of $9.99.This Cameo's makes deliveries North to Perkins Ave., East to Rye Beach, West to Hayes Ave. and South to Milan. They can even make deliveries to Kalahari Resort. Those boundaries, however, are flexible.Gary Gockstetter, District Petroleum, Vice President of Retail, and Keech are friends. Gockstetter approached Keech about the new station and his desire to put a Cameo inside, it seemed a natural fit to both men.The station has already seen a lot of customers pulling in off the busy stretch of U.S. 250.The men anticipate sales will only get stronger as people become aware the Hy-Miler is now open for business.The upcoming open house might help with that.The new Hy-Miler Convenience Store will host a four day grand opening celebration starting Oct. 30.There will be discounts throughout the pizzeria and convenience store, including on 2 liter bottles of pop and Ballreich's potato chips. Hot Dogs will be sold for $1.The Ohio Lottery will be at the store with instant winners on Thursday Oct. 30 and Friday Oct. 31.
