Hanson brothers arrested

astolfi@sanduskyregister.comA pair of Perkins Township brothers were arrested Thursday on drug trafficking charges after police recently raided their Columbus Park home.Steve Hanson, 39, and Thomas Hanson, 40, were both charged with felony drug trafficking, drug possession and criminals tools. Steve received a felony intimidation charge, as well.On Sept. 24, Perkins police raided the Hansons' Richmond Circle residence after a tumultuous 2014 — police had received numerous complaints from neighbors and obtained other information that indicated pills were being sold from the home, Perkins police Detective Joe Rotuno said.During the execution of a search warrant, detectives uncovered a large amount of drugs.Rotuno said there were several dozen Opana and Percocet pills in the home, though he couldn't provide an exact number due to the ongoing investigation.Also discovered and seized were thousands of dollars — more than one thousand, Rotuno said, but less than ten thousand.Additionally, detectives found property that had been stolen during burglaries of multiple area homes over the past nine months, Rotuno said.But investigators do not necessarily believe the Hansons were directly involved in those break-ins."We believe (other) people were stealing stuff, then basically pawned (the items) at this place for prescriptions pills," Rotuno said.During the course of their investigation, Steve also threatened at least two officers, Rotuno said. He allegedly told them he'd "take care" of them and their families if he encountered them on the street.Police did not initially arrest the Hansons following the raid, as they had to send some items to a crime lab for testing and were still piecing together their investigation.However, on Wednesday night, officers were called back to the neighborhood for a dispute between Thomas, his step-daughter Chelsea Zimmerman, 19, and a neighbor woman.Thomas later told officers "he confronted the (neighbor woman) about what she put on Facebook," in reference to the recent raid at his home, according to a police report.Thomas and Zimmerman were subsequently charged with disorderly conduct for the incident.After that run-in, police spoke with neighbors."We found out one resident was confronted by Tom, accusing him of calling police. Another source said Tom (once) started chasing a guy on motorcycle. The guy dumped the bike in the street, took off through the yard with Tom chasing him. Everybody knew stuff was going on, but were too scared to file a report. We decided we needed to get these guys off the streets," Rotuno said.So officers reviewed information from the raid, typed up charges and arrested the brothers on Thursday.But the investigation is still pending — more charges could follow for the pair and detectives are still looking into others who may be involved in the trafficking operation, Rotuno said.Both are now being held at the Erie County jail —Steve on a $55,000 bond and Thomas on a $45,000 bond.
