New audio tour relates history along U.S. 250

SANDUSKY — A new audio tour of U.S. 250 in Ohio includes historic sites in the area. A new free tour, available as a downloadable app, covers about 150 miles across Ohio, from Sandusky — regarded as Milan Road (U.S. 250) to Bridgeport on the Ohio River. The app automatically plays commentary as the driver approaches selected sites on the route. In total, 30 historic sites are covered by the audio tour. Locally, the Erie County sites are Sandusky Library, Plum Brook Ordnance Works, NASA Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility, the village of Milan and the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum. In Norwalk, the tour highlights the Firelands Museum. That segment is titled Thomas Jefferson's Giant Sloth. A driver who covers the entire length of U.S. 250 also can expect to hear about the Underground Railroad, Amish Country, Fort Laurens — Ohio's only Revolutionary War fort, in Bolivar — William McKinley, the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Clark Gable Museum, among other attractions. Gable, the "King of Hollywood," was born in Cadiz, Ohio. To access the tour: • Download the TravelStorys app to your smartphone; The app uses GPS to find your location • Select the "Route 250" tour • Download it to your phone Once you've downloaded the tour, you won't have to use wifi or cellular data, and no login information is needed. The app also offers a free Ohio Air & Space History tour and a premium Cleveland Highlights tour, which must be purchased. The Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton is one of the sites included in the air and space tour. The U.S. 250 Tour is provided by America 250-Ohio, which also put together the air and space tour. If you want to skip the drive, you can listen to the tour at travelstorys.com/tours/route-250. And the air and space tour is available at travelstorys.com/tours/ohio-air-and-space-history. "A couple of years ago, we thought it would be fun and appropriate to combine some of the themes of America 250-Ohio with the section of U.S. Route 250 here in Ohio," said Todd Kleismit, executive director of America 250-Ohio. "These stories along Route 250 come together to make a fun and educational road trip that shows how Ohio helped shape America as we honor our country's 250th year."
