Columbian's Seitz runs for 5 TDs against Clyde

CLYDE — How to stop a running clock? Let freshman Trenton Elfring throw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Grady Binder. Clyde stopped the running clock, but ultimately fell to Columbian 40-14 on Friday at Robert J. Bishop Stadium in Northern Ohio Conference Lake Division. "We made too many mistakes again," Fliers coach Eric Leuthold said. "We turned the ball over too much and put our defense into a tough position to play in." Clyde (3-6, 1-2 NOC Lake) struggled out of the gate with fumbles and interceptions and couldn't stop a strong Columbian offense. The Fliers had five turnovers in the game. TC (7-2, 3-0) struck on its first possession when Masen Seitz found an opening and ran 47 yards for a touchdown. On Clyde's next possession, Karsen Garner threw the ball but it was fumbled and recovered by Kevin Welter. TC though failed to convert a fourth down and turned it over to the Fliers, but Clyde had to punt. "We had a lot of short fields," Leuthold said. "Credit to them, they capitalized on our mistakes." TC scored 27 points in the second quarter, starting with Seitz's two-yard run. Columbian's Brock Siesel then recovered a Clyde fumble and the Tornadoes got a 41-yard pass from Logan Gooding to Dazarius Russell to put the ball on the Clyde 3. Seitz ran it in and the score was 21-0 with 7:20 on the clock. Garner then had a fumble that was caught by Lane Gelinas, who ran it 39 yards to the two-yard line where Seitz took care of business. TC put another seven points on with a 49-yard pass from Gooding to Russell. Clyde got its first touchdown with 16 seconds on the clock and Logan Gooding's pass was intercepted by Binder who ran for a 36-yard touchdown. It was 34-7 heading into the half. The last touchdown for TC came at the start of the third quarter, as Seitz ran 66 yards in four plays to get a touchdown and trigger the running clock. With one more regular season game ahead at home against Norwalk, the Fliers don't have time to hang their heads. "Hopefully we are going to finish strong, eliminate turnovers, and play good in all three phases of the game," Leuthold said.
