Report: Men break into home, steal money

PORTAGE TWP. — Two men appeared in Ottawa County's common pleas court this week after they allegedly broke into a home.Joseph, 29, and Jordan, 26, Wadsworth, both of Port Clinton, were each charged with complicity to burglary and complicity to theft. Joseph faces an additional charge of criminal tools possession.A grand jury recently indicted the pair after the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office investigated a February theft of money from a home in the 2200 block of Sand Road.The homeowner reported $5,000 was stolen from his home while he attended a concert out of town, according to a sheriff's report.The man said his home was locked when he left, but when he got home he discovered money missing from where he hid it. A dresser was also rummaged through. He believed the men got in through his bedroom window because it was open and the screen was taken out. Deputies found a ladder on the ground near the window.The homeowner contacted officers days later and said a neighbor's security cameras caught two men walking toward his home.The footage showed Joseph and Jordan with gloves on walking toward the man's home and then later it caught them walking away with the money, the report states.They appeared in court for their arraignments Monday where they both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
