Woman indicted for fleeing traffic stop

SANDUSKY — A Vermilion woman was recently indicted after she reportedly fled from a traffic stop in January. Stormie S. Chinn, 46, of the 11300 block of Stanley Road, is charged with one count of failure to obey an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. The case was originally filed in Vermilion Municipal Court but was then presented to the Erie County grand jury, resulting in the indictment. An arraignment date has not been set, according to the clerk of courts. Background At about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, an Erie County sheriff's deputy was monitoring traffic on U.S. 6 in Vermilion Township when a vehicle approached that was traveling nearly 30 mph over the speed limit. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that Chinn was the operator, according to an Erie County Sheriff's Office report. While the deputy was explaining the speeding citation to Chinn, she allegedly rolled up her window and fled at a high rate of acceleration. In the process, her vehicle kicked up debris that was on the shoulder, the report states. The deputy initiated a second traffic stop near Volunteer Bay on U.S. 6. When he approached the vehicle, he informed Chinn she would be receiving an additional citation. Chinn was specifically told she was not free to leave the scene, the report states. As the deputy returned to his cruiser, Chinn reportedly said, "I don't have time for this," and then fled the scene of the traffic stop. Chinn allegedly drove between 65 and 75 mph in a 50 mph zone for about 1 mile before turning left, southbound, onto Poorman Road. She parked her vehicle about one-eighth of a mile from U.S. 6, the report states. The deputy ordered Chinn from her vehicle at gunpoint. Chinn was arrested and placed in a cruiser. She allegedly refused to answer questions but would only make vulgar comments regarding male genitalia, the report states.
