Update: Man 'body-checked' Sandusky officer in attempted escape

Update 12:30 p.m. SANDUSKY — A man with an active warrant allegedly hit a Sandusky police officer and fled the police station Wednesday morning before being recaptured.Brendan Durr, 23, of the 1300 block of Camp St., was charged with third-degree felony escape and first-degree misdemeanor assault.Durr apparently just bonded out of the Erie County jail, where he was held on forgery and theft charges. He allegedly used a fraudulent credit card and gave a false name during a transaction at Castaway Bay, according to a Sandusky police report. After bonding out, Durr went to the Sandusky police station to try to get his car back, which was seized following his arrest Friday, according to Lt. Danny Lewis.While police were working with Durr at about 8:30 a.m., a detective notified Lewis that Durr had an active warrant for having weapons under disability, Lewis said. Lewis then arrested Durr, and as Lewis walked Durr out of the police station's door, Durr allegedly threw his body into Lewis'."He kind of body-checked me," Lewis said.Durr then allegedly ran, while handcuffed, around side of police station facing Meigs Street before being arrested without incident by officers near the tennis courts north of the Sandusky municipal courthouse, Lewis said.
