Redmen break through in sixth against Chargers

Bellevue came up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 6-6 tie and defeat Edison 9-6 Monday in non-conference action at All Pro Stadium in Avon. "We had to play from behind, but we kept battling. It's what we've been doing all year," Bellevue coach Andy Dennings said. "It was a good win against a nice team." Jake Smith earned the win on the mound for the Redmen after relieving starter Ethan Hartley. Hartley went the first 4 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits, six runs (five earned), walked three and struck out one. Smith gave up two hits and struck out three in the final 2 1/3. "Ethan didn't have too bad of an outing," Dennings said. "Jake Smith did an outstanding job, shutting the door when he came in. He did a real nice job giving us an opportunity to win it." For Bellevue (6-0), Alex Manner continued his hot start to the season, finishing 3 for 4 at the plate with two doubles and six RBIs. Matt Dudek had an RBI triple and scored a run, while Nick Raifsnider walked three times and scored three runs. "Alex Manner had a big day at the plate," Dennings said. "He did a nice job hitting the ball to all fields. He's hitting well." Dylan Dewitt, Trent Stamm and Dalton Jarvis each added a single. For Edison, Adam Wroblewski took the loss after going the first 5 1/3 innings. He struck out nine batters, walked four, allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits. Tommy Gerbracht was 2 for 3 at the plate for the Chargers, while Wroblewski was 2 for 3 with a double, and both Adam Wolf and Austin Utter had a hit and two RBIs.
