Local parties open offices to welcome party faithful

SANDUSKY — Political campaigns in the U.S. typically heat up around Labor Day. In other words, if you are interested in politics, it's time to get your yard signs, circulate political literature and sign up to volunteer. Here's your guide to getting involved: Erie County The Erie County Democratic Party local office is at Pointe Plaza, 3104 Milan Road (U.S. 250), Suite C in Perkins Township. The office is open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. If no one is there during regular hours, there's a phone number on the party website to call. "We have yard signs, buttons, bandanas, Constitutions, voter registration/address-name update forms, ballot-by-mail applications, candidate literature, early voting hours, slate cards," said Amy Grubbe, chairwoman of the local party. The party's website, at eriecountydems.org, has numerous options for reaching party officials on the "contact" page. The Erie County Republican Party's headquarters is located in the basement at the Best Western Plus, 6011 Milan Road (U.S. 250) in Perkins Township. It's open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The local party does not list a telephone number, but a contact email is listed on the party's website, eriecountygop.com. "Stop in for candidate yard signs, flags, hats, campaign and voting information, volunteer opportunities and more," the party's website promises. Harbor Road, Port Clinton, in front of Cheesehaven. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.on Saturdays. But people can get party news and learn about events at the party website, ottawacountydemocrats.com, and can follow the party on Facebook. Libertarians If you are an Ohio Libertarian, you may have a hard time finding a local party headquarters. But you can learn about upcoming events and other information at the Ohio Libertarian Party website, lpo.org. The party is active on social media. The party has "sign captains" throughout Ohio who will deliver yard signs for candidates, such as Don Kissick, the Libertarian candidate for governor; Bill Redpath, the candidate for Senate; and Tom Pruss, the candidate for secretary of state, Pruss said. Use the contact form at the bottom of the state party's website to request a sign, Pruss said.
