Troopers: Driver severely impaired in Milan Twp. wreck

A 24-year-old man accused of causing a head-on collision July 13 had a blood-alcohol content more than four times the legal limit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The case against Bryan Lindenberger, of Norwalk, may go before an Erie County grand jury for consideration of felony charges.Police arrested him last month on charges of aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle under the influence.Lindenberger was driving a Buick Century south on Kelley Road when he swerved off the side, overcorrected, and drove straight into the path of a northbound Jeep Cherokee.The collision injured Lindenberger and the 16-year-old driver of the other vehicle, Zachary Frederick. The passenger in Zachary's Jeep — 80-year-old Larry Schell, a retired attorney — was seriously injured. Lindenberger and Frederick have since been released from the hospital, but Tuesday afternoon Schell was still listed in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.Firefighters and emergency crews at the crash scene all said Lindenberger smelled like alcohol. Even at the hospital the smell lingered, according to Highway Patrol troopers. Test results show Lindenberger had a blood-alcohol content of 0.331 percent that day, troopers said. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08 percent.Court records show this isn't the first time Lindenberger has been charged with driving under the influence.In December, he pleaded no contest to the same charge in Norwalk Municipal Court. He was sentenced to driver's intervention and three days in jail and fined $500.Until mid-June, his driver's license had been suspended, except for work privileges.
