Woman pleads not guilty to child endangerment

PORT CLINTON — A woman charged for allegedly allowing children to live in a home with drug-related items pleaded not guilty Wednesday. A grand jury indicted Amanda Fredrick, 37, of the 200 block of Short St., earlier this month on three counts of child endangerment, all third-degree felonies. The charges originated from when Fredrick requested officers to collect her boyfriend's marijuana paraphernalia from her home after he died of an overdose, according to an Ottawa County Drug Task Force report.Fredrick allowed agents into the home and took them to her bedroom. She showed them a propane torch her boyfriend allegedly used to make "dabs" from marijuana, the report stated. A "dab" is a sticky wax-like substance which has high levels of THC, the psychoactive chemical in marijuana.Agents heard Fredrick yell as they collected marijuana paraphernalia from the bedroom. She came into the room and said she found heroin in her deceased boyfriend's wallet. They checked the wallet and found a powder folded inside the piece of paper. The agents suspected the powder was either heroin or fentanyl since the man died of an overdose, the report stated. They also found a green substance in capsules. Agents learned later Fredrick allegedly had three children live at the home while the drug-related items were there, according to the report. She appeared in the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court Wednesday and was released on a recognizance bond. The court scheduled her pretrial for March 16 and her jury trial for May 1.Reach reporter Michael Harrington at michaelharrington@sanduskyregister.com, follow the Register at Facebook.com/SanduskyRegister
