Perkins woman sentenced to prison for attempted vehicular assault

SANDUSKY — An Erie County Common Pleas Court judge sentenced a Perkins woman Tuesday to a year and five months in prison for attempted aggravated vehicular assault.Morgan Bauer, 27, will also spend 180 days in jail for operating a vehicle under the influence after she caused a crash that severely injured a woman Oct. 25, 2016. Bauer will also have a two-year license suspension.The prosecution and Bauer's attorney previously agreed to the term of the sentence, and Bauer agreed to plead guilty in December 2017.The presiding judge, Beverly McGookey, told the courtroom she received 45 letters prior to sentencing from people who knew both Bauer and the victim, Mallory Logan, 24. McGookey said she received more letters in favor of the victim than ever before.Logan, seated in the jury box, delivered a lengthy victim impact statement, most of which was directed at Bauer, whose actions Logan deemed "reckless" and "selfish.""You almost killed me, it's as simple as that," Logan said to Bauer. "Nothing you say can change the way I feel. I do not forgive you."Logan said she spent roughly four weeks in a Cleveland hospital after she was taken from the crash scene by medical helicopter. She described the extent of her injuries, which included internal bleeding, a lacerated liver, a fractured ankle and a concussion."To this day I'm still picking glass out of my forehead," Logan said, showing how her head hit her vehicle's windshield during the crash. "No one can fathom the amount of pain I've endured."Bauer also offered a statement to the court."I would like to apologize to Mallory and her family. I take full responsibility for what's happened," she said. "I hope one day you can forgive me."Assistant prosecutor Cheryl Goodrum said Logan will seek restitution of more than $26,000. McGookey asked Goodrum and Bauer's attorney, Troy Wisehart, to come to an agreement on an amount, or they would hold a restitution hearing.Bauer will also have to pay a total $875 in fines.
