Earlier this month, Briar Middle School's seventh grade Power of the Pen team placed second at the district competition at Tiffin Middle School. The eighth grade team finished ninth out of the 19 teams from area schools. The seventh grade team advances to the regional competition at Lourdes University on March 11. Seventh-grader Chloe Carr placed fourth overall out of 114 writers in the competition. The seventh grade team consists of Mari Bollini, Keira Geiger, Leona Hall, Eve Hartley, Jady Voegle and Delilah Wilken. For Briar's eighth grade team, Brodie Bibler, Elysia Heyman, and Drew Walton advance to the regional competition. The eighth grade team also includes Ava Walton, Emmy Le and Emma Sturzinger. Power of the Pen is an interscholastic creative writing program that challenges students to write prose based on prompts and within a specific time limit. Provided photo/PORT CLINTON SCHOOLS PORT CLINTON At the end of January, Port Clinton Middle School's Young Entrepreneurs club visited Port Clinton businesses. Students visited Abbie Fox of Lakelynn Design LLC and Dina Rodgers of Lilly & Gert's. They gave the students advice and answered questions about starting a business. The entrepreneurs' advice will help students develop business concepts for an upcoming project. The club meets after school to plan projects they will present at the Young Entrepreneurs Fair in March.
