Speaker confirmed for Social Security forum

PERKINS TWP. — The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget confirmed Maya MacGuineas, president of the committee, will be on the speakers panel for the Serving Our Seniors forum The Future of Social Security & Medicare: To be depleted in 6 years. The forum will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 (Ohio 4) at the UAW Hall, 3114 Hayes Ave. in Perkins Township. The forum will address what is being done in Washington, D.C., today to address the reported financial shortfall causing a projected cut in Social Security retirement pay by 22% to 25% by 2032; and enough funding to pay out 90% of Medicare expenses. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that conducts policy analysis and works with both political parties to help develop and analyze proposals to improve the country's economic condition. MacGuineas' areas of expertise include budget, tax and economic policy. As a leading budget expert and a political independent, she works closely with members of both parties and serves as a trusted resource on Capitol Hill. MacGuineas testifies regularly before Congress and has published broadly, including in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Atlantic and numerous other outlets. She also appears regularly as a commentator on television. Previously, MacGuineas worked at the Brookings Institution and on Wall Street, and in the spring of 2009 she did a stint on The Washington Post editorial board, covering economic and fiscal policy.
