Perkins police plans for fun K-9 event

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins police officers recently revealed some additional information about their upcoming annual K-9 fundraiser. It's scheduled from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Strickfaden Park, 318 Bell Ave., Sandusky. Attendees should expect a day of family fun while supporting the police department's K-9 program, organizers said. Perkins police today operates with one active K-9, Tenda. All K-9 operations run strictly on donations. No local taxpayer dollars go to support police dog-related activities. This year's event will feature: • A Metro Life Flight landing demonstration • Police K-9 demonstrations • Raffles • A Home Depot kids workshop • A barbecue dinner from Snooties for $15; Meal tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance at the Perkins Police Station, 2610 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Tickets are $15, which includes a barbecue dinner chips, a drink and dessert from the House of Donuts. "We are also looking for raffle prize donations from local businesses and community members," according to an event statement. "Gift baskets, gift cards, merchandise, services, experiences or other items of any value are greatly appreciated. Your generosity helps us continue providing training and equipment for our K-9 team." For those who would like to donate a raffle prize or become involved with this year's fundraiser, they should contact Officer Stephanie McDermott at 419-366-0564. "We hope to see everyone on Sept. 12 as we come together to support the Perkins Township Police Department K-9 program," the statement read.
