Firelands gets honor for heart attack care

SANDUSKY — Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky recently received the American College of Cardiology's National Cardiovascular Data Registry Chest Pain — Myocardial Infarction Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2026. Only 350 hospitals nationwide earn this honor. The award recognizes the local health care organization's "commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Firelands Health has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations," according to an award statement. To receive this award, Firelands needed to demonstrate sustained achievement in this area for two consecutive years, performed at the highest level based on specific criteria. "Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients," the statement read. Mark Martucci, a registered nurse and the health care organization's director of cardiac and pulmonary services, expressed how, "Firelands Regional Medical Center is very proud to receive this accreditation." "It is a testament to our team of skilled, experienced and compassionate physicians, nurses, technologists and others working hard each day to provide high-quality care to our patients," he said.
