Smith named new Edison superintendent

SANDUSKY — Edison Schools has a new leader heading into the new school year. During a Friday public meeting, the district's school board named Edison Middle School principal Cory Smith as Edison's new superintendent. Smith's first day as superintendent will be Aug. 1. He takes over after the recent resignation of past superintendent Corey Ream, who accepted a job as principal of Shelby Middle School. Smith, who graduated from the University of Toledo and earned a master's degree in educational administration from Ashland University, has served in various roles with Edison Schools for the past 20 years. His jobs included high school assistant principal, high school athletic director and, for the last 13 years, middle school principal. "The board of education is excited to welcome Cory Smith as our next superintendent," Edison Schools board president Brian Chase said. "His two decades of service, collaborative leadership style and commitment to students have earned the trust of our school community. We are confident he will build on Edison's strong tradition of excellence and continue creating opportunities for every Charger." Smith said he is "deeply honored" to be entrusted with the responsibilities of district superintendent. "Edison Local Schools has been my home for the past 20 years, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated educators, our families and our community partners as we continue providing outstanding opportunities for every student. Together, we will build on our strong foundation and remain focused on helping every child reach their highest potential." It was not immediately clear who would be hired as the new Edison Middle School principal.
