Cedar Point and you, in 2018

A new year presents new possibilities. When you work in a seasonal business, every new year presents a unique opportunity for a truly fresh start. This fresh start is a blessing not to be squandered, and it should never be taken for granted. It is an opportunity to either improve, or decline — nothing ever stays the same. We all get to choose, and our team continues to pursue improvement.Cedar Point will make the most of its 2018 fresh start with the debut of a new, world-class roller coaster, Steel Vengeance — the tallest, fastest and wildest hybrid roller coaster in the world. While we already have the greatest roller coaster collection in the world, our guests expect us to provide new and exciting experiences they can't find anywhere else. Steel Vengeance will definitely deliver a bold and daring experience that, just like Cedar Point, is larger than life.My goals for Cedar Point in 2018 are much bigger than a new roller coaster, however, just as a visit to the park is about so much more than riding coasters. When Cedar Point opened in 1870, no one visited to ride roller coasters. People needed to take a break from daily life. Folks came here to get away. It was a place to spend time with family and friends, to find rest, relaxation and FUN. This hasn't changed. This is still what people want today, and finding a break from daily life is more important than ever. My focus for improvement in 2018 is for our team to continue to deliver a better experience for our guests looking for rest, relaxation and FUN.Our team must be opportunistic regarding the increase in guests that Steel Vengeance will bring to Cedar Point. While a lot of them will come to ride, not all will. As a matter of fact, most won't. They will visit for the Cedar Point Beach, Cedar Point Shores Waterpark, our family rides, our shows, our funnel cake, or because they just want to spend time with their friends at a unique place to get away. Steel Vengeance may be the star attraction that draws guests to Cedar Point, but it won't be the key to Cedar Point's success. A strong team that's focused on serving our guests and providing an amazing guest experience will be.Another goal of mine is that Cedar Point does a better job of allowing our community to connect with and play a role at Cedar Point. The team at Cedar Point is the most passionate and committed group of people I have worked with, and they are focused on guest experience. As a seasonal business, however, we build a new team every year as our core team can't do it alone. I invite you to join us. It's a great place to work. After all, our associates' purpose is to make sure people have FUN! You get to work with a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds. You serve guests who come from all over the world for the Cedar Point experience. By the way, your schedule is flexible, and we will create shifts and schedule hours that work for you. Plus, your associate ID is a Season pass. So, we pay you to have fun with our guests, and then you get to be a guest when you aren't working. If joining our team isn't the right thing for you, I still want you to feel connected and to be proud of Cedar Point. I hope when you tell people you are from Sandusky, you do it with pride. Proud that Sandusky is associated with Cedar Point.Cedar Point is proud to be part of Sandusky, a city celebrating its Bicentennial in 2018. If you think about it, we're all one team – honoring our local history but continuing to look forward as we work to create a destination that will welcome both visitors and residents for many years to come. Our future here is very bright, and I hope you're as excited about it as I am.Happy New Year!Cedar Point vice president and general manager Jason McClure
