Teen earns national recognition

VERMILION — Vermilion resident Jack Rogers earned national recognition after placing second overall in the Young Marines' highest level of leadership training. Rogers completed the Advanced Leadership School at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. Students are selected from Young Marines units across the country based on their leadership potential, performance and commitment to the program. Participants are evaluated on leadership, academics, physical fitness, communication, teamwork, character and knowledge of military customs. Rogers has been a member of the Greater Cleveland Young Marines since 2019. He has participated in hundreds of hours of community service, leadership schools, ceremonial events and other activities promoting citizenship, teamwork and service. The Young Marines is a national nonprofit youth education and service organization for young people ages 8 through high school. "Earning second overall at the organization's highest level of leadership training is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, integrity and work ethic he has shown throughout the years in the program," said Shannon Rogers, executive officer of the Greater Cleveland Young Marines. "Our unit and our community are incredibly proud of him."
