Community garden comes to city

WILLARD — Huron County Public Health's Creating Healthy Communities program recently announced improvements made to Willard city's community garden. This helps expand access to fresh, locally grown produce and support healthier communities. Through program funding, the health department assisted with the purchase of fencing materials to enhance the garden space and help ensure its long-term success. Originally established in 2021 through a partnership between the health department's Creating Health Communities program and Willard's government, the community garden continues to grow as a valuable resource for residents seeking access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This would include: • Zucchini • Sweet banana peppers • Paste tomatoes • Italian large-leaf basil • Cilantro • Big Bertha green peppers • Giant jalapeño peppers • Supersonic tomatoes The department would like to thank Jason Veletean, Kim Williams and the city government for helping to make this project possible. They have done an amazing job of making improvements to the city and supporting the Creating Healthy Communities program's mission to increase healthy eating opportunities in our community. People can find the garden at 650 N. Main St. in Willard, and it is free to all. Individuals interested in having a plot in the garden can contact Veletean at 419-935-1654. Garden in Norwalk, too Additionally, the Nourishing Huron County community garden is available for those interested in picking fresh produce in Norwalk. The garden is located at 28 Executive Drive, in Norwalk, right next to the health department's building.
