Panthers praise retiree

SANDUSKY — This year, Sandusky Central Catholic School has one retiree, our beloved school nurse. After an accomplished career as an emergency room nurse, Lorraine Haerr, a registered nurse, joined the Sandusky Central Catholic School family in 2019, bringing with her a caring heart, incredible medical expertise and a passion for helping children. She quickly became so much more than the school nurse: She became a comforting presence and favorite stop for students of all ages. From our youngest preschoolers to our graduating seniors, Haerr nurtured and cared for every student who walked through her office door. Whether she was handing out a Band-Aid for a scraped knee, calming nervous butterflies before a big test or simply offering a listening ear, she made every child feel safe, cared for and important. Our students absolutely adored her — and her kind, loving spirit was truly contagious. In fact, many would say her warm smile alone could nurse a sick child back to health. During the unprecedented challenges of COVID, Lorraine's emergency room experience proved invaluable as she helped develop the health policies and procedures that allowed Sandusky Central Catholic School to safely reopen and continue providing students with the education and community they needed. Lorraine's kindness, compassion and unwavering dedication have left an unforgettable mark on the Panther family. The impact she has made on Sandusky Central Catholic School reaches far beyond what she will likely ever know, and we are deeply grateful for the love and care she shared with our students, families and staff each day. While she'll certainly be missed in the nurse's office, the countless lives she touched will continue to reflect her legacy of compassion. We wish Lorraine a joyful, well-deserved retirement filled with happiness, good health and many wonderful adventures ahead.
