'Who's the Boss?'

In this updated version of the 1984-92 situation comedy the situation has Leandra English playing the part of Angela Bower, while Mick Mulvaney plays the part of Tony Micelli as both are vying to be the "Boss" of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.In case you're wondering.The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is an agency of the United States government formed 6 years ago and is responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector.A sector that includes banks, credit unions, securities firms, payday lenders, mortgage-servicing operations, foreclosure relief services, debt collectors and other financial companies operating in the United States.Just my luck, that sector doesn't include bookies.So, late last Friday when outgoing, as going out the door, CFPB director Richard Corday bid adieu, sayonara, adios and farewell he decided to appoint English as his temporary replacement.Oh-oh.A few hours later President Trump, from his self-described winter White House in Mar-a-Lago, Fla., announced that Mulvaney, the Office of Management and Budget director and a longtime critic of the CFPB, would be the acting director.Double Oh-oh.This past Sunday English filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of D.C. calling herself the rightful acting director of the CFPB and asked for a temporary restraining order to prevent President Trump from appointing Mulvaney to the job.Hmmm….Why hmmm….?I ran out of oh-oh's.How did this affect President Trump?I can only speculate. I'm guessing he probably shot a birdie on the 9th hole at Mar-a-Lago, then, continued playing golf.HALFTIME SHOW. Just win, baby. Part I. The 13-0 Mount Union Purple Raiders will host the 12-1 Frostburg State Bobcats (Md.) this Saturday at high noon in the 3rd round of the NCAA D3 playoffs. The Purple Raiders will "Just win baby" by a score of 42 to 21.Just win baby. Part II. Eight hours later that same day the Ohio State Buckeyes will play the Wisconsin Badgers in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship. The Cleveland Browns, Oops! there goes the just win baby streak, will travel to California to play the only team they beat last year. The San Diego Chargers. The loss was so bad for the Chargers that San Diego kicked them out of the city and they now play in Los Angeles.Revenge will be vengeful as the Chargers win 42 to 21.Anyway, Sunday afternoon White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement that stated:"There should be no question that Director Mulvaney is the Acting Director. It is unfortunate that Mr. Cordray decided to put his political ambition above the interests of consumers with this stunt."Perhaps then Press Secretary Sanders should have passed out cherry pie, "I cannot tell a lie, I baked this cherry pie," to dispel the pie lie "Piegate?" about her Thanksgiving chocolate pecan pie.The no question Press Secretary Sanders was referring to was this. On July 17, 2011, President Obama nominated former Ohio Attorney General and Ohio State Treasurer Richard Cordray to be the first formal director of the CFPB.Then, after some "hem and hawing" from Congress, President Obama on January 4, 2012, issued a recess appointment to install Cordray as director through the end of 2013.The constitutionality of President Obama's recess appointment of Cordray came into question after a January 2013 ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.Turns out, President Obama's recess appointment of three members to the National Labor Relations Board, at the same time as Cordray, violated the Constitution.However, and yes there's always a however.However, President Obama's Cordray appointment was Presidential enough that on July 16, 2013, the Senate confirmed Cordray as director in a 66–34 vote.Phew!To legal talk it down so I can understand it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Or, in this case, what's good for The Barack is good for The Donald.Evidently, Press Secretary Sanders was right about Cordray's political ambition and her pie and now with Mulvaney being appointed by President Trump when it comes to Federal Bureau appointments we know who….The boss is.Register columnist Chuck Hoefert
