Sandusky's Scott May has his day

He thrilled Blue Streak fans for years, coming up through junior high and on the basketball court at Sandusky High School his senior year, 1972.For years he was the record holder with most-points scored for SHS; he was All American for football and basketball for his high school; he's a gold medal Olympian for his country.His days at SHS prepared him well to go on to a glorious career at Indiana University under famed coach Bobby Knight, going 32-0 for the NCAA championship in 1976, which remains the gold standard of college records.And, from there he was an Olympian for the U.S. basketball team. He graced the covers of two Sports Illustrated magazines.May went on to play seven seasons in the NBA after being drafted second overall in 1976 by the Chicago Bulls. Scott May was all those things, indeed, he became a man nurtured by a great and loving family that lived in a great and loving city and community that never spared a cheer for its hometown hero.May got his due when he was inducted Nov. 19 into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.We're here to cheer for him and marvel at his accomplishments on the court and off the court.We also hope May comes back home in 2018 and helps the city celebrate his Hall-of-Famer status, and celebrate the city's birthday.As one man said, you can move the man out of Sandusky, but you cannot move Sandusky from the man.
