Sandusky man sentenced to six-plus years in prison for wire fraud

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man will spend more than six years in prison for his role in an alleged scheme to defraud several area companies.A federal judge on Monday sentenced Scott C. Wagner, co-owner of Construction Equipment and Supply in Sandusky, to six years and three months in jail on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. Wagner was also fined $25,000 and will have a three-year supervised release term.A jury in July found Wagner guilty on 26 charges relating to an alleged scheme by Wagner and several co-defendants to submit false invoices from CES to local companies for equipment rentals that did not occur, or billed companies for more equipment than was actually delivered.Co-conspirators allegedly exchanged kickbacks in the form of cash and gifts for participating in the scheme.Wagner and alleged co-conspirators purportedly used the scheme to defraud glass manufacturer Owens-Illinois, Sandusky-based manufacturer KBI and Holland, Ohio-based Sawyer Structural Steel.Two of those alleged co-conspirators also were sentenced today. George H. Dunlap III, the other owner of Construction Equipment and Supply, who previously reached a plea deal, was sentenced to two years of probation and fined $5,000.Tom Walters Jr., who was a manager at Sawyer Structural Steel, was sentenced to four years of probation. Anthony K.
