Check out Ruta family's new hotel

PERKINS TWP. — The area's newest hotel, a SpringHill Suites by Marriott, recently checked into the community, ready to accommodate guests this summer and beyond. Co-owned by siblings Cecelia and Vince Ruta — under the guidance of their father and longtime local hotelier, Mike Ruta — they've spent about a year getting this four-story, 95-room lodge ready for visitors. The Ruta family began welcoming guests into SpringHill this week. Going forward, people can book rooms and learn more by visiting Marriott's website and/or downloading the Marriott Bonvoy app. Beyond the rooms — most notably, their spacious suites, offering either one king- or two queen-sized beds — common area amenities include a swimming pool, fitness room, meeting areas, breakfast eating section and a full bar. "What we offer here, you are going to get a little bit more luxury than at your typical franchise hotel," said Vince, noting SpringHill Suites represents a $9 million privately funded financial commitment. Located at 6300 Milan Road (U.S. 250), Sandusky, across from Danny Boys by the Bogart Road intersection, SpringHill Suites represents the Ruta family's fourth Erie County-based hotel. They also own and operate: • Quality Inn & Suites, also on Milan Road, beside SpringHill • Fairfield Inn by Marriott, also on Milan Road, next to Mad River Harley-Davidson • Comfort Inn River's Edge in Huron "For 50 years, we have made our livelihood in hospitality here, and it's provided for us well," said Vince, noting his entire family maintains residency in the Sandusky area. "We want to keep providing hotels that give our guests and make Sandusky a great place while providing a living for people as well." When factoring in all four hotels, it totals about a $20 million investment in the greater Sandusky area and beyond. "Our family truly believes in the area, and that's why we keep committing to the community," Vince said. "Our goal, whether at this hotel or our others, is to provide an excellent experience with our hotel, and that's what we've been doing and will continue to do."
